What does sustainability mean to accountants? The sustainability of an organisation is much
more than its ability to generate profits – it is the ability to endure in the
long term in the face of environmental, social and economic challenges.
Sustainability reporting has
increased exponentially in recent years – at the moment sustainability reports
are voluntary but legislation may not be far away - the Government are
consulting on whether to make reporting mandatory. But sustainability is about much more than
simply compliance – it is about embedding a culture within an
organisation. And it doesn’t need to
cost the Earth - recent academic research suggests that becoming
environmentally-friendly can actually reduce the costs of a business and
increase revenues.
The ICAS Sustainability pages
keep you up to date with important news in the reporting arena and provide you
with links to a wealth of information and guidance. Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
template provides a skeleton report that can be adapted to suit any
organisation.
