Insolvency monitoring and regulation sits within the ICAS Quality Assurance Department of the Regulation and Compliance Division. The Insolvency Monitoring team are all Chartered Accountants and qualified Insolvency Practitioners with extensive experience gained in all areas of personal and corporate insolvency.
Insolvency Monitoring Reviewer - Dorren Lurring BAcc CA MABRP
Dorren qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994 and moved straight into the field of corporate recovery and insolvency. She subsequently passed the examinations of the Joint Insolvency Exam Board and is a licenced insolvency practitioner.
Dorren has held management positions in professional practice firms since passing her insolvency examinations and is also a regular presenter for ICAS in its insolvency training program.
In September 2008 Dorren joined ICAS as an Insolvency Monitor.
Insolvency Monitoring Reviewer - Derek Wilson BAdmin CA
Derek qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1987. On qualifying he specialised in corporate recovery and personal insolvency, obtaining his Insolvency Permit in 1990.
Derek has gained experience in all aspects of insolvency during his career. He has held senior positions with a number of firms, was a sole practitioner for a number of years and latterly Director of Insolvency Services with an Insolvency and Debt Solution Company.
Derek has been a regular presenter for ICAS in its Insolvency training programme.
In March 2011 Derek joined ICAS as an Insolvency Monitor.
Insolvency Manager - Caroline Morris
Caroline joined ICAS in 1997 as a member of the Members Services Department where she was based for 7 years before moving to the Regulation & Compliance Insolvency Department in 2004. Before joining ICAS Caroline held high profile positions in what was then known as the Scottish Office, now known as the Scottish Government.
Insolvency Counsellor - Peter McCourt CA MIPA MABRP
Peter qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1970 and immediately took a position as accountant within a group of companies involved in the steel industry but on being made redundant in 1982 returned to the profession as part of Deloitte Haskins & Sells (Deloittes) insolvency team. During his time with Deloittes, which later became Coopers & Lybrand, he gained a wide experience of both corporate and personal insolvency before obtaining his insolvency permit in 1988. He was later appointed compliance manager for the Glasgow office. In 1994, Peter joined the Joint Insolvency Monitoring Unit in London which was set up by the ICAEW and the IPA to carry out the monitoring of their insolvency practitioners but was recruited by ICAS in November 1999 as insolvency monitor and quality reviewer. On retiring from his role as InsolvencyMonitor on 30 June 2011, with effect from1 July 2011 Peter has taken over the role of Counsellor to the insolvency monitoring team.
Director of Quality Assurance - Lesley Byrne BAcc CA
The Quality Assurance function of ICAS, which includes Insolvency Monitoring, Audit Monitoring, and Quality Review is headed up by Lesley. She was previously a Senior Reviewer in Audit Monitoring and Quality Review with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ireland and prior to that an Inspector in the Joint Monitoring Unit (employed by ICAEW) conducting audit and financial services monitoring visits, before being tasked with setting up the ICAS Audit Monitoring unit at the end of 2004. Lesley leads the strategy and management of the Quality Assurance section.
